Geometric Series 01b – Daredevil is a new addition to my Bauhaus-inspired geometric collection, created from recycled vinyl records and painted wood. This artwork explores how colour, rhythm, and shape can work together to create a sense of movement and harmony. Every piece is carefully positioned to create a balanced visual structure that reflects modernist design principles.

Bauhaus Inspiration Behind Geometric Series 01a – Palm Leaf

The Bauhaus school (1919–1933) transformed design by promoting unity between art, craftsmanship, and everyday functionality. Its focus on geometry, simplicity, and clean composition strongly influences my creative process. In this artwork, the intersecting vinyl shapes and colour blocks honour the Bauhaus belief that art should feel purposeful, considered, and accessible. By using recycled records, I also embrace the Bauhaus value of working with practical materials in innovative ways.

Crafting Process for Geometric Series 01a – Palm Leaf

Each element of this artwork is produced using a CNC router, a precise and safe method for shaping vinyl. CNC cutting avoids the toxic fumes released by laser cutting and allows for greater control over curves, angles, and layered depth. Every vinyl shape is sanded, cleaned, and assembled by hand before being paired with painted wooden components. This process ensures that each piece retains crisp edges while maintaining the tactile feel of mixed media.

Meaning & Intention Behind the Artwork

In Geometric Series 01a – Palm Leaf, I explore how colour relationships can evoke emotion and rhythm. The selected Resene palette brings contrast and vibrancy, while the circular motifs reference both musical rotation and geometric harmony. By combining vinyl—a material once made for sound—with structured Bauhaus geometry, the artwork symbolically blends music, design, and movement.
